Stake President's Message

Message from President Asa Smibert on the re-launch of the EMP Relief Society Blog

“Dear Sisters,

As Christ completed his mortal ministry, in those final hours on the cross, he was supported by three faithful women. As disciples of Christ their desire was to be where he was even in the most difficult of hours. They were women of great faith, who knew their purpose and understood the purpose of the master whom they had served. In those final hours, I imagine that it would not have been popular or convenient to stand by the Saviour. I imagine that it would have been easier not to declare any association with this Jesus of Nazareth. Yet, they were there. I am touched by their faith and inspired by their devotion. I marvel at the countless women of faith that have followed their legacy and continue to stand by the Saviour today.

As I have reflected on how sisters continue to stand by the Saviour today I am reminded of the remarkable women whose faithful discipleship blesses those within the stake and throughout the community. Below are a few ways that I have seen women “Stand by the Saviour” today.

1. I have observed with admiration as women respond to an invitation to visit, minister to and love others through visiting teaching.

2. I am blessed by women who lead with conviction and teach through testimony and example.

3. I am strengthened by women who stand firm for moral values taught by the Saviour, yet reach out with love and compassion to those who may act differently.

4. I am humbled by those who love the scriptures and seek daily to study the Book of Mormon and feast upon the words of Christ.

5. I marvel at those whose lives are evidence of the truth taught by the Saviour that as you lose yourself you find yourself.

In daily, private moments not broadcast on TV or published in social media sisters all over the stake continue to stand with the Saviour. They boldly and with determination keep the covenants that bind them to God and unite their families. They listen and follow prophetic guidance and the subtle promptings of the Spirit. In these ways, and many more, they are found daily standing with the Saviour.

This is a such wonderful time to be part of the Lord’s church; a time to assist in hastening the work of the Master. It is my prayer and hope that this Blog will provide a platform for sisters to reach out in love to each other and share the precious truths of the gospel. It is a medium to lift, inspire, educate and enlighten. I feel blessed to stand with each of you in the service of Jesus Christ. I, like you, know that He lives; and that makes all the difference.

Sincerely,
President Asa Smibert”
